Across the Southeastern United States, Orlando, Tampa, and Atlanta, the demand for ‘green’ construction in the hospitality and multi-family housing is on the rise. With buildings operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year, hotels consume an abundance of resources.
“Across industries we are seeing an increase in consumer demand toward sustainability practices, and no industry is better poised to meet these demands than hospitality. This growing sector is rapidly adopting green buildings because owners and developers want to enhance their triple bottom line—people, planet and profit,” said Rick Fedrizzi, CEO and founding chair, US Green Building Council.
“LEED is a transformative tool that positively impacts the quality of our built space by creating a healthier, more sustainable environment that saves money and resources.”
Green buildings have a higher return on investment and a substantial increase in value, as well as a decrease in annual operating costs. A study from the Cornell University found a significant increase in hospitality revenue per available room and in average daily rates, for those with green building practices.
The Green Building Economic Impact Study from the United States Green Building Council reveals, “The trajectory of the green building sector of the U.S. construction industry is slated for expansive growth. To date, green building has created millions of jobs and contributed hundreds of billions of dollars to the U.S. economy.” The study went on to say, “By 2018, green construction will directly contribute 1.1 million jobs. Of that, LEED will be responsible for directly contributing 386,000 jobs.”
Green Construction is more than just a trend, it has become common in commercial developments and multi-family housing. These practices not only reduce energy cost and maintenance during construction and also operational practices, they are economically more efficient, environmentally responsible, and lessen the building’s carbon footprint. SWET Construction Group ensures energy-efficient designs are implemented during construction or remodeling.
