Construction in the health care communities, multi-family housing, and hospitality industry in the Southeastern U. S. is predicted to grow in 2017. During a convention earlier this year, economist from the American Institute of Architects, Associated Builders and Contractors, and the National Association of Home Builders forecasted growth among the sectors.
“The demographics are incredibly favorable on the long run for health care,” the AIA’s Baker said in a conference call on Monday discussing the mid-year forecast. “Seniors consume a lot of health care services, and as baby boomers are moving into their late 60s and 70s, we expect to see a lot of construction in the health care sector.”
Construction of outpatient health care facilities, imaging centers, ambulatory surgery centers, walk in clinics, urgent care centers, and branded medical clinics, have increased across the board. That growth is expected to continue through 2017 and well beyond.
“Whoever controls the patients’ lives will end up with the most money,” Juhas said of the ACA. “You have to be where they are,” she said. “Instead of building more hospitals, healthcare providers started expanding outreach facilities located where the patient is.”
Today’s health care communities are smaller and more accessible. This new wave of healthcare is less expensive for the patient and provides an alternative from the expense of a visit to the hospital.
“As millennials continue to grow up and get into the workforce, they want even more convenience,” Juhas said.
