Apartments in the SouthEastern US are Having High Returns

Recent research has found multi family housing has a relatively low risk, while having strong returns. High return on investment has apartments outperforming other types of investments.

The newest research from National Multifamily Housing Council Research Foundation (NMHC), studied a large variety of commercial properties and found that apartments not only outperform other types of asset classes, they also stand the test of time.

“Over the last three decades, apartments have become a desired asset class among both domestic and foreign real estate investors because of their strong returns coupled with relatively low risk,” said Mark Obrinsky, NMHC’s Chief Economist. “Despite the different characteristics of apartment, office, retail, and industrial properties, one might expect competitive markets to reduce, even eliminate, the higher risk-adjusted returns on apartments. This research finds that not to be the case, however.”

It is not mystery why some multifamily housing are more rentable than others. Older apartments, those showing their age and haven’t kept up with today’s amenities, aren’t want renters are looking for.
